Bodrum Information
This interesting and historic town is considered one of Turkey's
most sophisticated resorts with an ideal blend of old and new in a
spectacular setting. Whilst there is no beach in Bodrum itself,
there is still plenty to occupy the visitor. The c15th castle with
its archaeological museum divides the two bays and the entire
waterfront is bustling with activity. There are also ancient ruins
to explore including the amphitheatre and mausoleum The old town
and harbour is an intrigue warren of winding streets and old
buildings housing cafes, souvenir bazaars and restaurants. To the
west side of the castle is the sheltered harbour and newer marina
with its fleet of charter boats and harbour-side restaurants.
Ferries depart for nearby bays and you can even take a local
excursion to the islands of Kos and Rhodes.The nearby beaches at
Gumbet are only a few kilometres away and are easily accessible by
local transport. Bodrum is the place for bargain hunting and there
are numerous shops in the centre of the town and even a street
market every Thursday and Friday. At sundown, the Bodrum legendary
nightlife takes over, with hundreds of nightclubs, bars, cafes and
even an open-air disco pulsating till dawn.
Bitez Information
Located on the South West coast of Turkey is the quiet and
unsophisticated resort of Bitez. This traditional resort is built
in a sheltered bay, with its narrow sand and shingle beach it is
an ideal destination for families. A popular choice for
watersports enthusiasts, there is also a small jetty, which caters
for day trippers arriving by boat. There is a choice of beachfront
bars and restaurants, but for a livelier evening Bodrum is just 6
miles away and is easily reached by dolmus or taxi.
Gumbet information On
the southwest corner of Turkey, where the Mediterranean meets the
Aegean Sea, Gumbet is 2 miles west of Bodrum. A lively, purpose
built resort with non-stop activity it tends to attract families
and young adults looking for an upbeat atmosphere. The main
attraction is the 600metre long sand and shingle beach set in a
scenic bay with low, wooden hills as the backdrop. During the day,
the beach area is buzzing with sun seekers and watersports
enthusiasts and there is plenty to entertain them - windsurfing,
water ski-ing and pedalos are very popular pastimes. Along the
waterfront and behind the beach are the main shopping centres, and
bustling streets where you will find numerous bars, cafes and
tourist shops. As night falls, a party atmosphere descends and
there are plenty of late nightclubs and disco bars vying for your
attention. Bodrum is well worth a visit and its just 3 kms away
and easily reached by local "dolmus". For a change of scenery and
pace, visit one of the numerous picturesque villages scattered
around the Bodrum peninsula.
Torba Information This
peaceful resort is on the Northeast of the Bodrum peninsula yet
only 6 kms from Bodrum itself. Tucked into a natural bay, the
resort has a curving narrow beach with exceptionally clear water
and a background of pine forests and hills. With wonderful scenery
all around, guests can enjoy a relaxing beach holiday or try the
array of watersports on offer in front of the hotels. There are a
small number of bars and restaurants in the centre of the resort
along from the harbour, but the lifestyle here is laid back and
low key, with the hotels providing most of the evening
entertainment. Bodrum is easily reached by local 'dolmus', and
well worth a visit either during the day for exploration or
shopping, or after dark for a lively night out! |
